Golden spiral

If we separate the square part m² from this rectangle, we obtain a residual rectangle similar to the original rectangle with the sides m and

M – m. This separation can be continued and produces a spiral of ever smaller squares that winds around a certain starting point – https://domyhomework.club/analogy-homework/ . With quarter circles in the squares you get the so-called golden spiral.

The starting point for the discovery of this special division ratio was the regular pentagon or better the resulting regular pentagonal star – the pentagram – the secret sign of the Pythagorean League, a school of science in antiquity founded by Pythagoras Of Samos – domyhomeworkclub  . The guiding idea of this school (“Everything is number”) was to understand the natural numbers as the “original principle of all things”.

Every knowledge and every thing should have its origin in the numbers or be explained and described by them. With this view, the Pythagoreans believed themselves superior to ordinary people. Now, however, it was precisely one of their own who showed that there was something that could not be described by natural numbers and proportions.

The Pythagorean Hippasos Of Metapont (5th century B.C.) discovered the pentagon dodecahedron and, when investigating the ratio of sides and diagonals of the pentagram – the secret sign of the school – https://domyhomework.club/math-problem-solver/ – found that the diagonals divide continuously and the length of the sides is equal to the larger section. He calculated the ratio of diagonal to side as 1.681… and did not find a representation with natural numbers, as the Pythagorean theory of proportions dictated. He searched in vain because, as we know today, this is not a rational but an irrational number. This is where the school broke down, as it was deprived of its guiding idea. Hippasos  was probably drowned in the sea.
