Palliative Competency Framework

The BC Palliative Care Competency Framework identifies ideal competencies for health-care providers caring for people with life-limiting conditions. Health-care providers include generalists, enhanced practice and specialists. Some competencies shared by all health-care providers (Inter-professional core competencies), and some are discipline-specific (see below). Much of the Framework was adapted with permission from the Irish Palliative Care Competency Framework and The Nova Scotia Palliative Care Competency Framework.

The Inter-professional COVID – Palliative Core Competencies Self-Assessment tool, for Generalists – including nurses, nurse practitioners, physicians, social workers, counsellors and health care assistants –  is a self-assessment tool that includes links to suggested resources for each competency. You can download this fillable pdf to complete the self-assessment or print.

COVID Palliative Care Resources is another tool available to ALL Generalists. This tool sorts the resources in the self-Assessment tool by topic.
