If not you, who? If not now, when?
Who would you trust to make your health and personal care decisions?
How would they know what you want?
April 16 is Advance Care Planning Day in Canada, and it’s the perfect time to start conversations with your loved ones about what’s important to you when it comes to future health care.
Advance Care Planning is part of life planning – like planning for education or retirement.
It can help you get the care that’s right for you and appoint someone you trust to help you get it, even if you can’t speak for yourself.

Run a campaign

Run your own ACP Day campaign.
Advance Care Planning Canada has created campaign tools, including co-brandable posters, social media posts, inspirational stories and fun challenges.
BC Centre for Palliative Care has an extensive Advance Care Planning Hub, including resources specifically geared to the campaign’s theme, “If not you, who?”. Many of these resources are also available in Simplified and Traditional Chinese, Punjabi and Hindi.
Examples of these resources:
- What you need to know about enhanced representation agreements (section 9) (Part 1 of 3)
- What you need to know about being a representative in an enhanced representation agreement (Part 2 of 3)
- A guided tour of the BC government’s enhanced representation agreement (section 9) form (Part 3 of 3)
- What you need to know about standard representation agreements (section 7)
- A guide for people who have asked to be a substitute decision-maker, now what?
- The health-care decision-making flowchart, which illustrates how healthcare decisions are made in B.C.
