SUMMARY:Grief in the time of COVID-19: Lessons for social work
DESCRIPTION:Grief is a normal and natural response in this time. Grief is a response to loss that affects our physical\, emotional\, behavioural\, social\, financial\, and spiritual lives. It does not only occur in response to death; any loss can cause us to grieve. So much is being lost in the midst of the COVID-19 global pandemic. Grief literacy provides a way forward. Grief literacy calls on all of us to be better acquainted with grief so that we can support ourselves and one another. This webinar addresses what social workers can do in the time of COVID-19 to be more grief literate. With greater grief literacy\, we can all support ourselves and one another better\, now and in the future. \nWebinar Key Objectives: \n\nReview current theory about grief and loss\nDiscuss how grief is occurring in the pandemic\nDefine grief literacy\nConsider implications for social work practice\n\n  \nWebinar Presenters: \n\nSusan Cadell\, MSW\, PhD\, RSW \nSusan Cadell is a social work researcher and Professor in the School of Social Work at Renison University College at the University of Waterloo\, in Kitchener-Waterloo\, Ontario\, Canada. Susan’s research concerns death\, dying and bereavement\, particularly positive outcomes of caregiving and grief. Susan’s most recent projects concern the public health model of bereavement support\, grief after Medical Assistance in Dying (MAiD)\, and tattoos that disrupt\, celebrate or memorialize.

SUMMARY:Talking About Advance Care Planning with clients & thinking about it for ourselves
DESCRIPTION:Sponsored by BC Association of Social Workers \nPresented by Cari Hoffman & Laura Gaspard Bainbridge   \nThis online live webinar examines the advance care planning process for working with clients and for ourselves. \nAbout the Webinar: \nPlanning ahead before you are sick is something all of us should do. Yet less than 50% of Canadians have talked with their family or friends\, and only 10% have spoken to their health care providers about their future goals and wishes for their health. Many people don’t know how to begin while others are unaware of how our values influence our health care decision making and that we can have a say in our care. Social Workers are especially skilled at engaging in advance care planning conversations due to the diversity of our areas of practice and notable communication skills. Join us in learning for yourself and your clients the concept of Advance Care Planning\, Substitute Decision Making for healthcare decisions\, and provide insight and resources to start and continue the Advance Care Planning process. \n  \nTo register please click here. Cost is $11.62 (+ fees) for BCASW Members and $27.54 (+fees) for general admission

DESCRIPTION:This series is open to all primary and ambulatory healthcare workers across the globe using or planning on using electronic information and telecommunication technologies to support and promote long-distance clinical health care and patient education. \nTelehealth can address COVID-19 and other epidemic situations by limiting exposure to infection for vulnerable populations and health care workers while expanding the reach of resources to communities that have limited access to needed services. This allows patients to receive health services away from settings where the potential for contracting COVID-19 is high\, such as hospitals\, health clinic waiting rooms\, private practices\, etc. \nEach session will include facilitation by Dr. Sanjeev Arora\, Director of Project ECHO and Dr. Matt Bouchonville\, Associate Medical Director\, ECHO Institute\, a didactic presentation\, and the following panel of experts for Q&A: \n\nJoseph C. Kvedar\, MD; Vice President\, Partners in Health\nChristian B. Ramers\, MD\, MPH\, AAHIVS; Medical Director\, Laura Rodriguez Research Institute\nJohn D. Scott\, MD\, MSc\, FIDSA; Medical Director\, University of Washington Digital Health\nKristin Sohl\, MD\, FAAP; Executive Director\, ECHO Autism\n\n\nSession 3:     Monday\, June 1\, 2020    7:00 AM – 08:30 AM\n                        Telehealth Technology\, Privacy and Payment Policy \n  \nClick here to register.

SUMMARY:Staying Resilient as the COVID-19 Pandemic Continues
DESCRIPTION:We’ve heard the analogy that responding to the COVID-19 pandemic is a marathon\, not a sprint. Health care workers in all positions and disciplines are cautioned repeatedly about the importance of self-care practices so they can go the distance. But now\, several months into this crisis\, your resiliency techniques may be starting to feel stale or inadequate. How do you continue to flex your stress-resistance muscles for the long haul? \nJoin us for a webinar with J. Bryan Sexton\, PhD\, Director of the Duke Center for Healthcare Safety and Quality\, whose work centers on combining the science of enhancing workforce well-being with practical tools and strategies for building and maintaining a resilient workforce. Dr. Sexton will share techniques to help you keep going in a session that is engaging\, fun\, evidence-based\, and more relevant than ever to the lives of busy health care workers. \n  \nClick here to register.

SUMMARY:Driving and Accelerating a ‘One System’ Response: Why COVID-19 has Shone a Spotlight on Integrated Care
DESCRIPTION:This webinar is in association with IFIC Canada\, the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto and The Change Foundation. It will be chaired by Jodeme Goldhar\, Executive Lead\, Strategy and Innovation at The Change Foundation and Professor Walter Wodchis from the  Institute of Health Policy\, Management and Evaluation at the University of Toronto\, Co-Directors of IFIC Canada \n\nHigh performing health and social care systems provide exceptional care\, quality and experiences for patients\, caregivers and providers. Pivotal to this\, is how we work across health and social care as one team. The need for integrated care is a global priority and is poised to address fragmentation and accelerate the improvements that are needed. During a global pandemic\, the need to work as an integrated system is even more pressing and gives us an opportunity to pause\, reflect and respond. \nIn situations where systems are subjected to unprecedented pressure\, organizations and sectors may respond from the lens of what can their individual organization or sector do\, rather than responding as a cohesive and interconnected system. \nOrganizations that have embraced collaborative models of response and care and were already working to advance integration pre-pandemic appear to be more effective in responding as one connected team and community. \nThrough this webinar\, we will profile Canadian and international examples that demonstrate what teams have leveraged and accelerated in order to respond to COVID-19 as one connected team and community. \n\n\nPlease register here.
