Even though palliative care as a concept seems to be unanimously supported\, it is still not readily available to all Canadians. Those who do benefit from palliative care services tend to also benefit from higher socio-economic status and family support\, as opposed to those people facing the end-of-life who also face inequities like homelessness\, poverty\, isolation\, racism\, and stigma. In our presentation\, we will discuss the key roles that nurses can play to facilitate equity-oriented palliative car\, in order to promote “palliative care for all” who need it in our communities. DESCRIPTION:The CPCNA webinar series is taking a summer break\, but mark your calendar for this informative session in September! \nCPCNA is pleased to present Holly Prince HBSW\, MSW (Phd. Candidate) presenting on improving palliative care for Indigenous Peoples. In this webinar you will explore challenges and barriers that limit appropriate healthcare for Indigenous Peoples\, identify ways healthcare providers can become allies to Indigenous Peoples to deliver culturally safer care and learn about newly developed tools and resources to enhance culturally safe palliative care for Indigenous people. \nIndigenous Peoples have limited access to palliative care when facing advanced illness\, end of life\, and bereavement in Canada. When access is achieved\, the Western medical approach is often at odds with Indigenous ways of knowing and commonly does not respond with culturally safe care. DESCRIPTION:Pharmacists are integral members of the multi-disciplinary team delivering palliative care to those facing life-threatening illness\, including at the end of life.
