DESCRIPTION:Event hosted by: CPCNA \nRegistration: \n\n\nFREE for Members \n\n\n$40 for non-Members \n\n\nThere is limited capacity so register early! \n\n\nCPCNA is pleased to present Dan Grover\, RN\, BN\, BSc  and Kelli Stajduhar\, RN\, PhD\, FCAHS\, FCAN who will be speaking to us on Wednesday\, June 16\, 2021 at 9-10am \nWhile increasingly recognized as a human right\, access to palliative care is still not a given. Even though palliative care as a concept seems to be unanimously supported\, it is still not readily available to all Canadians. Those who do benefit from palliative care services tend to also benefit from higher socio-economic status and family support\, as opposed to those people facing the end-of-life who also face inequities like homelessness\, poverty\, isolation\, racism\, and stigma. In our presentation\, we will discuss the key roles that nurses can play to facilitate equity-oriented palliative car\, in order to promote “palliative care for all” who need it in our communities. In the April Town Hall\, we reflected on you\, those who have attended the town halls\, those who are members\, and our nursing colleagues across the country.  We extend our thoughts\, our care\, our concern. In some ways\, this coming month might be one of the most frustrating experiences as we hope for vaccinations to do their job and as we hope for better days. \nWe know that during the past year\, we have all floundered at time as we developed ways of coping to get through difficult moments\, difficult situations and made difficult decisions. While some progress has been made to integrate a palliative approach to the care of these patients and their families\, challenges exist in bridging the two distinct care cultures of HF and Palliative Care. Essential to this important practice shift is the effective communication between health care providers\, patients and their family caregivers. This presentation will explore how the Heart Failure Palliative Approach to Care (HeFPAC) was designed to build capacity for care through a shared language that fosters communication about priority issues that commonly arise in advanced HF. \n\nPresenter Bio: \n\n\n\n\nPatricia Strachan RN MSc PhD is an Associate Professor in the School of Nursing at McMaster University. SUMMARY:Part 2: Learn How to Facilitate Well-Being Debriefings within Your Organization
DESCRIPTION:The COVID-19 pandemic is taking a stunning toll on the emotional well-being of health care workers. Many of us are looking for proven strategies to mitigate the natural stress\, empathy strain\, and moral distress that we are experiencing. \nPeer-facilitated well-being debriefings are an evidence-based way to provide support to health care workers; they increase social support\, decrease feelings of isolation\, and provide opportunities to learn from each other about coping with difficult issues. The result: positive impact on well-being\, personal resiliency\, improved patient care\, and reduced feelings of burnout. \nIn this two-part webinar series\, Vickie Leff\, LCSW\, will train attendees to be peer facilitators for well-being debriefings\, providing the skills needed to bring this technique to their organizations. In part one\, attendees learned the benefit of peer-facilitated well-being debriefings; the format of these conversations; how to secure buy-in from leadership; and more. In part two\, Vickie will review the techniques previously learned\, and then provide attendees with an opportunity to hone their newly-acquired skills.

From the perspective of the BC Care Providers Association\, this news is heartening\, as the association has been advocating to reinstate family visits for many months. \nThere are many things to consider as our members look towards welcoming family caregivers back into long-term care and assisted living homes. Particularly\, it is likely that upon being reunited with residents\, some family members will experience feelings of grief and loss.
