DESCRIPTION:The COVID-19 pandemic is taking a stunning toll on the emotional well-being of health care workers. Many of us are looking for proven strategies to mitigate the natural stress\, empathy strain\, and moral distress that we are experiencing. \nPeer-facilitated well-being debriefings are an evidence-based way to provide support to health care workers; they increase social support\, decrease feelings of isolation\, and provide opportunities to learn from each other about coping with difficult issues. The result: positive impact on well-being\, personal resiliency\, improved patient care\, and reduced feelings of burnout. \nIn this two-part webinar series\, Vickie Leff\, LCSW\, will train attendees to be peer facilitators for well-being debriefings\, providing the skills needed to bring this technique to their organizations. In part one\, attendees learned the benefit of peer-facilitated well-being debriefings; the format of these conversations; how to secure buy-in from leadership; and more. In part two\, Vickie will review the techniques previously learned\, and then provide attendees with an opportunity to hone their newly-acquired skills.

From the perspective of the BC Care Providers Association\, this news is heartening\, as the association has been advocating to reinstate family visits for many months. \nThere are many things to consider as our members look towards welcoming family caregivers back into long-term care and assisted living homes. Particularly\, it is likely that upon being reunited with residents\, some family members will experience feelings of grief and loss. SUMMARY:N95 Fit Testing
DESCRIPTION:Hosted by SafeCare BC \nWe understand that fit-testing services for N95 respirators have become more scarce in some areas due to the pandemic and that this is a challenge for some of our members. We want to ensure that care settings that wish to fit-test their staff – for example\, so that care staff can perform aerosol-generating medical procedures\, or as preparedness for possible airborne pathogens or other respiratory hazards – can continue to do so. SafeCare BC is therefore offering two pilot fit-testing sessions in partnership with Mountainview Safety Services. This is not a Train-the-Trainer session\, it is an opportunity for staff to be fit-tested. \nThese sessions will take place on November 3rd and 4th in the SafeCare BC Training Centre in Burnaby. Fit-testing will be provided on these days at a reduced cost of $10 per person. SUMMARY:Covid-19 Conscious Provincial Violence Prevention Curriculum (PVPC) Workshop
DESCRIPTION:Are you a care worker that faces the risk of violence during your work day? Do you have the tools and training needed to de-escalate unpredictable and potentially dangerous situations? \nInjuries arising from acts of violence or aggression are one of the leading injury–types among continuing care workers. These types of situations can often be avoided or managed by using current and leading-practice violence prevention skills and techniques. \nTaking a violence prevention workshop will help make you and your workplace safer! \nLed by an expert health care facilitator\, the Provincial Violence Prevention Curriculum\, delivered by SafeCare BC\, will teach you how to prevent and de-escalate potentially violent situations in the workplace and how you can protect yourself in the event of a behavioural crisis. \nThis session builds on concepts covered in the e-learning modules\, providing you with the opportunity to practice and apply your knowledge in various scenarios that have been customized for the continuing care sector. \nTo adhere to the PHO’s orders\, changes have been made to the course delivery and classroom protocol.
