Dr. Eman Hassan, MD, MPH
Acting Executive Director
Dr. Eman Hassan is the Acting Executive Director of the BC Centre for Palliative Care and the lead for the Centre’s Public Health Initiatives. Eman is the author of the Centre’s White Paper titled: “The Public Health Approach to Palliative Care”. In this paper, she describes the different public health palliative care models including the Compassionate Communities’ model and presents the international experiences with these models. Under Eman’s leadership, the Centre’s Compassionate Communities initiative and Advance Care Planning interventions received national recognition by the Canadian Foundation for Health Improvement (CFHI) and the Canadian Frailty Network (CFN) as innovations that should be spread nationally.
Eman has more than 20 years of experience leading population health initiatives and program evaluation. In addition to her medical degree, Eman holds a Master of Public Health from UBC and completed a two-year Fellowship – awarded by CIHR – in Health Services Research and Evaluation. Eman is published in leading medical journals and received notable awards from academic and professional institutions for her research which contributed to improvement in community health.
